About GES

gesaboutuspageGalax Elementary is a Pre-K through fourth grade school with roughly 582 total students. There are 80 staff members that work very hard to ensure that we provide the best and safest learning environment for all our students.

We also incorporate a multitude of enrichment activities throughout the school year—D.A.R.E. program, Life skills program, Van Gogh Outreach program, Jamestown Foundation, Bike safety program, visits from the Wytheville museum, and many guest speakers.

There are numerous activities that occur outside of school that further enrich the students’ learning experiences—Visits to the Shot Tower , Matthews Living Farm, Galax Library, Galax Fire Station, Grayson National Bank, The Discovery Place, The Asheboro Zoo, Monticello, and area restaurants.

Accelerated Reader is a popular program used at every level to encourage students to read during the school year. We also incorporate Breakthrough to Literacy in Kindergarten and Headsprout in the first grade— both a computer based reading program that gives teachers the ability to continuously analyze students reading progress.

We have implemented a walking program to encourage a healthier life style. Currently grades 2-4 participate by walking laps before every gym class and earn a toe token for every five miles they walk. Fourth grade students are invited to attend the walking program in the morning at 7:45 until 8:00.

We are most proud of our academic success. Galax Elementary School is FULLY ACCREDITED.
